Baked Fruit Trifle

Serves 8

Ingrédients

  • 2 cups (500 ml) or 4 slices dry bread, cubed
  • 2 cups (500 ml) milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) sugar
  • 1 cup (250 ml) sliced assorted fruits (bananas, pears, apples)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) butter or margarine

Mode d'emploi

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (170°C).
  2. Grease a 9 x 13 inch (33 x 23 cm) baking dish.
  3. Soak bread cubes in milk.
  4. After 15 minutes, remove excess milk and set aside, in another bowl.
  5. Add egg, vanilla extract and sugar to excess milk. Stir.
  6. In baking dish, spread a layer of bread followed by a layer of fruit. Repeat layers.
  7. Pour milk mixture over fruit and bread and top with small pieces of butter.
  8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes.

Variation: Replace bananas with dates and replace vanilla with cinnamon.
